Still life studies were a significant part of my studies. I prefer to paint images close up to render the vivid colors found in nature. Finding the right color palette is half the challenge when defining an object. Then, the fun part is marrying them all together to make the painting a complete whole. My professor once told me to study an object and find it uniqueness and then try to understand its relationship to the colors of everything around it. It sounded so complex at the time but as you can see I managed to figure it out. Some many people are unaware of the planning and execution that go into a painting as simple a a flower. My best advice is to take a crack at it and see for yourself.
