This angel is after an angel sculpture in the protestant cemetery in Rome.  If memory serves me she is about 12' long and made of marble. The sculptor captured so many different emotions in this piece. It was an extraordinary cemetery located across the street from a pyramid.  You have to see it to believe it.  The painting is a series of oils and glazes layered over a period of several months. When it comes to painting angels, I like to work over a large canvas.
